An Obama Presidency, good for the Republicans

Apparently, Barack Obama has been leading McCain in every poll for over a week. Today’s Rasmussen Tacking Poll shows him with a 3 % lead. (Yesterday it was a 4 point lead). Also, the same polling organization is showing Obama making gains in Virginia (Link) and also in Alaska (Link). It should be noted that these are states that usually vote Republican.

Also, the website Electoral-vote.com projects that Democrats will expand their majority in the senate to 58 and that their majority in the House of Representatives will grow to 238. Bottom line is that this will not be a good year for Republicans. –But oh well, the Republicans deserve it. Not that I’m siding with the Dems, mind you.

But I do think that an Obama presidency and a massive Democrat majority in both houses can be good for the Republicans in the long run, though not in the short term. But how that can happen will depend largely on how they deal with any Obama legislation or any scandals that may come to light.  Republicans should not jump on the most irrelevant issue and blow it out of proportion because that may just lead the American people to see them as trouble makers and that may cause them to lose even more seats in congress by 2010 and 2012.

Whether the Republicans can win soon in 2 to 4 years will also depend on how Obama with his considerably large Democrat majority deal with issues such as the economy. If, let’s say, his economic plan backfires and the economy sinks lower into recession then chances are Obama will be a “One-term-wonder.” Also, if he doesn’t get much done that can affect him either positively or negatively. Many Americans may just assume he’s a do-nothing president and vote him out. On the other hand, the oposite may happen and the American people (or at least many) may have the idea that doing nothing is better than doing harm.

But the best part for the Republicans is if the newly expanded Democrat congress and President skrew up, they will be able to say, “Hey, don’t look at us.”

If Republicans honestly think, as many of them claim, that the Democrats are out of touch with the American people then they won’t have to do much to win back the White House (or at least one house of congress) in 4 years. For the most part, all they will have to do is nothing but let the Democrats run wild for a few years. And I say, let them.

Yes, an Obama presidency might be great for the Republicans, but it will be a disaster for America. As much as I would love to watch the Dems implode, I don’t know if I want it enough to put the safety, security, and economy of our nation at risk.

I agree, but so would a McCain presidency. I’m not siding with Obama. I’m just giving my personal view on the Republicans themselves.
